A Soul for Europe establishes a European-wide platform of individuals from the culture and economic sectors which functions as a think-tank to develop common strategies, actions and policy proposals and concrete recommendations. The platform is to ensure the sustainable development of Europe, its regions, its cities and communities in a global contest.
A Soul for Europe recommends that the EU communicate not just EU policy but rather Europe on the emotional level in all its richness and diversity, and make it known to Europeans.
The incalculable wealth of cities’ and regions’ cultural substance and the diversity of their non-material values should be appreciated not just from a local, regional or national perspective but as a resource to fuel the process of European integration. Unlike the many other tasks incumbent on cities and regions, their cultural remit cannot be transferred to centralized European bodies; the regional duty to culture remains, with its European and its international component, as an individual civic or regional responsibility.
