 A Soul for Europe

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

Bearing the title Cultural Identities on the Move, this year’s "A Soul for Europe" conference on November 8-9 will react to the current European challenges in a creative way and draft proposals for intensified cooperation between politics and civil society in the cities and regions of Europe. Since its first edition in 2004, the conference has aimed at integrating culture more strongly into the complex process of European integration, revealing the centrality of culture as its creative motor. We thus invite committed European citizens, intellectuals, artists, politicians, representatives from NGOs, economy and the media to join us in the debate. More than ever, Europe has to become the Europeans’ cause!

This year’s conference will be jointly organized, prepared, and funded with the Allianz Cultural Foundation, the conference’s partner since 2004, as well as the Evens Foundation, Goethe Institut, traduki / S. Fischer Foundation and the initiative “Cities for Europe” at Stiftung Zukunft Berlin. European Parliament has been involved with “A Soul for Europe” from the beginning and since 2014 has taken on the patronage of the conference.

Please visit our conference website for further information and get in touch with us on Facebook and Twitter.

A Soul for Europe Pre-Conference
Virtual online debate, accessible via https://medium.com/asoulforeurope

On November 8-9, 2016 the annual A Soul for Europe Conference will take place in Berlin. Entitled Cultural Identities on the Move, the conference aims at addressing current European challenges by discussing viewpoints from the political as well as the cultural sphere. However, within the context of the current developments, we felt the urge to do more. With the virtual A Soul for Europe Pre-Conference, we want to foster a debate about the future of Europe already well before the conference. For all those who want their voice to be heard, for those who would like to prepare their attendance by reading what others think and for those who – like us – believe that the topic deserves much more attention than two session days can achieve. Everyone is invited to add their comments at https://medium.com/asoulforeurope. Impulses from the pre-conference will be presented to the panelists in November.

A Soul for Europe @LollaPalooza

September 10-11, 2016 (Berlin, Germany)
This year “A Soul for Europe” was part of the famous music festival LollaPalooza Berlin. We promoted our work at Der Grüne Kiez, an interactive area of the festival that enabled visitors to get in touch with diverse non-profit organizations and initiatives. Hundreds of festival goers from all over Europe joined us at our booth “European Meeting Point - A Soul for Europe”, participated in our quiz on European culture and designed their own festival buttons. Some of them told us their feelings on the future of Europe in a video that will be shown at the A Soul for Europe Conference in Berlin in November. To get an impression of the festival you can visit us on Facebook or read the piece by our media partner ALEX TV.
