Dear Friends and Colleagues,
“Europe has no alternative: renationalisation is the wrong way” stated Martin Schulz at the Berlin Conference 2015. During the conference under the heading "Europe. Its Values. Its Citizens", speakers, artists and active citizens voiced the basic conviction that it is urgent to invigorate and assert Europe’s shared values, its cultural tradition and bonding force – beyond the conflicts of day-to-day politics.
Core themes of the conference were the political power of culture and the role of cities in this process of Europe’s renewal, which has to develop from the bottom up. “A Soul for Europe” considers it as its duty to implement the insights of the conference into concrete claims and consequences. We will set to work together with our political partners.
For more details view the conference report.
From this year on the “Berlin Conference” will be renamed to “A Soul for Europe” Conference, emphasizing the Europe-wide approach of the conference. However, dates and location will stay the same: save the 8th and 9th of November 2016 for the “A Soul for Europe” Conference at Allianz Forum in Berlin!

Past Events / Activities
How can inhabitants of a local neighbourhood take part in municipal decisions? In October and November 2015, three forums organised by Image Aiguë in cooperation with municipal and cultural actors invited inhabitants from the “les Buers” neighborhood – Villeurbanne, Ville Nouvelle neighborhood and Rillieux-la-Pape (Lyon/France) to an open and equal dialogue about democratic participation. The method: short physical theater improvisations, gathering performers, children and adults from various origins, bringing up topics such as borders, power relations, hunger and how to find ones’ space in the society. After each performance, a dialogue that gives the floor to the spectators and their opinions initiates the first steps of democratic participation and empowerment. Meetings with European partners, walks in the neighbourhood and a final discussion in Goethe Institut Lyon provided the transfer to a political level.

The Sinopale Forum is a participative communication platform gathering the actors of the city Sinop (public, private and civil society) as well as experts in order to share updated information, foster collective thinking and learning from one another and trigger new projects concerning the development of the city. This year’s Sinopale Forum was entitled “Culture and Creativity as Catalyzers for Local Development” and took place in Istanbul and the city of Sinop in January 2016. Topics of discussion were: “Can the concept of Creative City be applied to bottom up sustainable local development strategies?”, “How can the business world contribute to the bottom up local development of a city?” or “Future perspectives. How can I contribute to it?”
