Constitution of ASfE Advisory Board & Advisory Board Parliamentarian Working Group

On 13 July 2010 the ASfE Advisory Board and the Advisory Board Parliamentarian Working Group met for their constitutive session at the European Parliament in Brussels. Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament and Chair of the Advisory Board, and Doris Pack, Chair of the Committee for Culture and Education of the European Parliament invited to the meeting. Hans-Gert Pöttering (Deputy Chair of the Advisory Board) and Doris Pack (Chair of the Advisory Board Parliamentarian Working Group) chaired the reunion.

For this important constitutive moment, we were delighted to count on the presence of a committed group of MEPs representing the cultural, geographic and political diversity that constitutes the strength of being European: Hans-Gert Pöttering, Doris Pack, Sandra Kalniete, Hannes Swoboda, Hannu Takkula, Michael Cramer, Silvia Costa, Tanja Fajon, Emine Bozkurt and Judith Sargentini.

"A Soul for Europe" was represented by the presence of Volker Hassemer (president of the Board of Managers of the EEIG ASfE), Hugo de Greef (Member of the Board of Managers), Strategy Group members Farid Tabarki, Marijn Duijvestein, Rarita Zbranca and Eva Nunes.

This first meeting formally strengthens the collaboration of the ASfE initiative with the European Parliament and sets an auspicious continuation for the focused collaboration on some of the proprietary topics set by the ASfE Strategy Group:
Items on the work plan to be approved are:

  • Regional development – next steps
  • Cultural component in high authority for foreign affairs
  • Active citizenship in Europe
  • Images of Europe – communication of Europe: a concern?
  • Culture and economy in the political strategy of the Commission
  • Cities and regions manual: European responsibility in cultural local policies – collaboration with MEPs
